5th & 6th grade Athletic Program Clearinghouse

Parish Episcopal School believes, as with all levels, that 5th and 6th grade sports can be an integral part of the educational experience. We also believe that at this age, the proper level of attention, importance, interest, and commitment are student specific, and can best be decided by the parents of the child. Experience, ability, and growth rates vary widely as well with these student-athletes and should be evaluated when considering their athletic experiences.

With this philosophy and these actualities we believe it is important to offer various support functions to assist the parents and the student-athletes in their endeavor to participate at this level, without limiting the options available to them.

While the 5th and 6th grades sports at Parish are parent directed, run and lead, the school provides a “Clearinghouse” for information related to sports and teams available, coaches’ contact information, a league directory, and access to field and court space for practice and games on a first come – first served basis, allowing though equal time for all teams associated with Parish. Dates/Times availability are subject to Parish’s 7/8, sub varsity and varsity teams.

Web page space will also be made available for team listings and contact information for coaches, team reps and grade level liaisons.

As with any organization staffed by volunteers, each and everyone should find a spot to be involved and “invest” your time in your child’s activity.

Job Descriptions:

Coach: the person in charge with final decision responsibility: related to team members, practice schedules, league affiliation, applicable fees. While he/she has this authority, it is a collaborative effort among all parents to create a successful season.

“A Successful Season” may be best defined as all (100%) of the student-athletes having an interest in playing the sport next year.

Coaches will be background checked by the school and will take the “Safe – Church” instruction through the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas.

Coaches will have access to Clinics organized by the Parish Varsity coaches.

Team Rep: (representative) The person that handles administrative functions of the team: e-mail distribution lists, communications regarding schedules and adds/changes/deletes to the team’s calendar. Works closely with the Coach.

Grade Level Liaison: the person who assists new and existing students to secure a place on a team. Coordinates information with the Athletic Department for Webpage.
