Upper School Service Opportunities
The Upper School Community Service Department sponsors group opportunities throughout the year for the students in US.  This page will list various opportunities which are updated monthly. More information and sign up sheets can be found on the Community Service bulletin board on 3rd floor in the commons.  Additionally, students are encouraged to pursue individual projects. They may check with local agencies. Many are listed below under on-going opportunities.


November-December Volunteer Opportunities
The Point at CC Young
Nov 9, 16 and Dec 7, 2:00-3:30
Volunteers needed to help residents at CC Young Retirement Village make bowls in a ceramic class.  You may sign up to help with one or all classes.  If you want to volunteer for this, email Ms. O’Rear.

Community Partners of Dallas - Peacock Alley Warehouse
Fri, Nov 21, 9am-Noon
12-15 volunteers needed to help Stacy Eppers with holiday projects at Community Partners.  Peacock Alley Warehouse, 2050 Postal Way, Dallas 75212 - Mapsco 43Q. Parish will take a bus.  Sign-up sheet on 3rd floor Community Service board. Contact Ms. O’Rear if you have signed up and want to ride the bus.  This is a no-school day for Upper School.

Special Olympics - Volleyball Competition
Sat, Nov 22, 8am-5pm

Region 10 competition is at Dedman Rec Center at SMU and Highland Park MS.  To volunteer, email Robin at sotx-dallasvolunteers@mail.com.

Meals on Wheels - Holiday Gift Project
Dec, 3 and 4, 4:00-8:00pm

Volunteers needed to help wrap small gifts for Meals on Wheels clients. Location is VNA Patrick and Beatrice Haggerty Center, 1440 W. Mockingbird, Dallas 75247

Help for one or more hours.  Please bring donations--full size toothpaste, shampoo, or lotion; toothbrushes, white tube socks.  Younger students may come with parent.  Email Ms. O’Rear if you or your family would like to help.

Voice of Hope - Christmas Kids’ Shop Party
Sat, Dec 6, 8am-3pm

Volunteers needed to help children at VOH “shop for free” for their family.  Assist in setup, shopping assistance, gift wrapping and clean up.  2 shifts: 8am-12pm and 12-3pm. Sign up sheet on 3rd floor Comm Service board.

Metrocrest Holiday Store
Mon, Dec 15, 4-6:00pm

Volunteers needed to help families shop in the Holiday Store in Carrollton.  Spanish speakers needed! Sign up sheet on 3rd floor Comm Service board

Check out the agency’s web site to find out about the mission of the agency and if it might be a place where you would like to volunteer. Don’t wait until the last minute. Many of the agencies require an application or back ground check. Many web sites will list up coming events. Call the contact number and speak to the volunteer coordinator for information.
