Administrative/Non-Teaching Director of Communications Parish Episcopal School seeks a Director of Communications. Reporting directly to the Director of Advancement, the Director is responsible for enhancing the relationships between the School and the multiple constituencies that contribute to the School’s success.
Overview: The Director leads the School’s integrated marketing and communications efforts for admissions, development, and college counseling; conducting market research, developing ideas, and implementing integrated solutions to marketing and communications challenges. The role requires a keen sensitivity for constituent perspectives of the School image and actions. The Director also works in close consultation with the Director of Media Relations and the Director of Technology (who also serves as the School’s Webmaster). The Director ensures that all School communications reflect the School’s mission and commitment to scholarship, leadership and character.
Specific responsibilities include the following: • manage the information flow, content, approvals and production of all school publications including handbooks, newsletters, magazines, annual report, summer mailing, curriculum guides, school calendar and so forth • compile, write, edit, proofread, design and produce other communications pieces and materials – in both print and electronic format – as required; • website content; • photography at on-campus events and manage digital image databases and photo archives • oversee the feedback loops and benchmarks to determine effectiveness of marketing and communications vehicles
Qualifications: Minimum requirements include a bachelor’s degree and two to five years experience in a relevant area of communications, marketing or institutional advancement, preferably in an independent school or college. The applicant must demonstrate proficiency in graphic design software (InDesign) in addition to Microsoft Office (PC/Windows environment). Experience in website management and HTML formatting considered an asset.
Position requires a strategic orientation, outstanding editorial skills, substantial project management experience, and the ability to work with creative teams to deliver superior results. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to write crisp and compelling copy on a wide range of topics; direct creative projects from conception through delivery; and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Proven management and interpersonal skills, demonstrated knowledge of principles of integrated marketing and communications, the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously including budgeting and scheduling, are essential. The applicant must demonstrate an ability to handle confidential material and situations with discretion and sensitivity, and an ability to interact with students of all ages. The position requires a self-confident, persevering, and enthusiastic team player. Sense of humor is a must.
