Welcome from the Head of School
Parish Episcopal School is “a community of possibility.” This is one of the first thoughts which entered my mind after visiting the school for the first time last October. In fact, when I accepted the opportunity to become Parish’s third Head of School, I did so eager to join a collection of faculty, parents, and students who seemed so impassioned about what Parish was and the possibility of what it could become. Indeed, a spirit of possibility suffuses Parish’s past, present, and future:
- In 1972, Mary Blair pioneered this spirit of possibility by establishing The Parish Day School. With the support of the vestry at the Church of the Transfiguration and the hard work of its first teachers, the foundational philosophy of offering a teaching and learning environment equal parts stimulating and nurturing was established.
- During her remarkable 29 year stewardship, Gloria Snyder and a forward-thinking Board of Trustees saw the possibility to offer an enriching and challenging educational program infused by the Episcopalian tradition to middle and upper school students.
- These same leaders recognized the possibility of creating a unique and inspiring educational environment in the Exxon-Mobil facility off Midway Road and, within a year, purchased and retrofitted it to serve students. This dynamic learning environment has, since 2002, allowed The Parish Episcopal School to expand from 400 to nearly 1,200 students.
Today, a new chapter in the history of Parish begins. Our goal is quite simple: to be a community of “shining eyes,” of people who engage in teaching, learning, leading and serving with joy, passion, and purpose. We intend to be a committed partner with our students and parents; our quest is to help each student to carefully and conscientiously realize his or her unique potential in every arena of daily life.
As one of the community’s newest members, my family and I are eagerly learning something about this terrific community each and every day. I hope you use the website to learn more about the possibilities that lie within this special place.
