ASSIGNMENT:

 

12/15-16                                  Write a theme (essay), “What I want for Christmas (Holidays).” Type your paper, one page only, 12 font verdant, one inch margins,             and one and a half space.

                                                Due 12/17 or 18

 

12/11-12                                  Complete the handout distributed in class. Write directly on the handout in blue or black ink only, and complete exercise 6 and the   oral practice. Write out the oral practice on the sheet (Davis and others, you know who you are). Please bring note cards to our     next class meeting.

12/9-10                                    Take the suggestions from your partner and compose a final draft. Clean up your short story by taking out unnecessary dialogue and             incidents that tend to ramble. If you have written your story with single space, please use 11/2 space instead. Please staple your           brainstorm to the back of your rough draft. If you did not do a brainstorm, staple the blank handouts to the back of your rough          draft.

12/5 or 8                                  Bring in the brainstorm sheets I gave you or one of your own, also, bring in a rough draft of your short story (typed, 12 font             verdana, double/or single spaced, one inch margins). 11/11-12                                  You will be writing the essay portion of your first trimester final in class this week; A-Day this Thursday and B-Day this Friday. I would focus on the main characters of both novels, The Outsiders and Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry. You will most likely be writing a compare and contrast essay focusing on similarities and differences (major conflicts, plot, setting, and resolutions). You may refer to your novels while writing the essay.

11/7or10                                  Type the rough draft of your creative writing story you started in class and revise your letters for the last time. Bring all drafts to class.

11/5-6                                      Revise your letters; bring the first draft and the new draft to class.

11/3-4                                      Welcome Back! Following the instructions from class, write two letters and label the different parts of the letter (date, address, inside address for a business letter only, salutation, body, closing, and signature). Type this and write a body to each letter, one letter is to a friend about your trip to Catalina, and the second letter is to your favorite sports team. Please use the actual addresses in these letters. Keep this to one page each, type using 12 font verdana with one inch margins, 1.5 space not double!!!

10/16/17                                  Using the Orange Grammar Book, please complete the following exercises: p. 269, exercise 2; p. 271, exercise 4;

p. 272, exercise 5; p.274, exercise 7, and p. 275, exercise 8. Read the instructions carefully and only write the answers. Please make sure to label your papers correctly. Please do not write on the back side of papers. Thank you.

10/6-7                                      Bring a final draft to class of your Compare and Contrast Essay. Don’t forget to staple your final draft to the front of your rough draft. Please underline your Thesis Statement on the final draft.

10/2-3                                      Draft your first draft of your compare and contrast essay. I realize we started them in the computer lab but not all of you finished. Bring your rough draft to class on Monday (A day) or Wednesday (B day).

9/29-10/1                                 Organize your information for your compare and contrast essay. Take the notes from class and the T and H handouts and organize/classify your information for your essay (use one handout only). Keep in mind the four element format. You need to only find one similarity between the candidates and one difference (regarding their stance on an issue discussed on their website or found in the media).

                                                This does not need to be typed.

9/26-27                                    Answer the Five W’s and How questions and bring all information gathered about the presidential candidates.

9/24-25                                    Put your information for our compare and contrast essay in chronological order based on similarities and differences of the two presidential candidates. Use the 10 sentence minimum when putting your information in chronological order. As discussed in class, introduce the candidates (this should take three sentences), discuss similarities (this should take two to four), differences (this should take two to four), and conclude with a final thought. (HOLD OFF on this assignment)

9/22-23                                    Bring to class your presidential debate notes from Ms. Lieberman’s class and any other information you might have regarding the candidates. We will be discussing and drafting a compare and contrast essay on the candidates.

9/18-19                                    Take your notes from class and your homework from 9/16-17 and draft a final draft of your personal narrative (add dialogue to your narrative, remember the exercise in class and refer to your notes). Type as always and staple the final draft to the front of the first draft.

                                                Due 9/22-23

 

9/16-17                                    Take the first draft you created in the computer lab and “Evaluate” your personal narrative. Take the orange book and open to page 116 and complete steps 1-7. Remember, some steps ask more than one question. Find and mark the different parts of your narrative on your first draft.  Please remember to bring back the orange books.

9/12 or 15                                Create a list of arranged details for your personal narrative, similar to exercise 8 in class. You must list no less than 10 details. It must be typed, 12 font verdana, one inch margins, and double spaced.

9/10-11                                    Finish working on handouts and fill them in completely by our next class meeting.

                                                Due 9/12-15

 

9/8-9                                        Begin brainstorming activity for your autobiographical incident. Once you have found your topic, bring it to class, we will elaborate and “Dig for Details.” We will use your handouts to get started in class.

9/4-5                                        Finish your personal paragraph and begin brainstorming your autobiographical incident. You may want to use a web or outline in organizing your thoughts. You DO NOT need to type your prewriting but be prepared to show your thoughts to me in class.

9/2-3                                        Complete your personal paragraph and make changes to your summer essay (don’t forget to staple the final draft to the first draft).

8/26-27                                    Write a summer essay. Please type per instructions in class (one inch margins, 12 font verdana, and double space). Your essay must have a beginning, middle and an end. Please do not forget to indent with each new paragraph. The length of the essay is not important.
