Lady Panthers advance to state finals TAPPS State Volleyball Tourney (Katy, TX) UPDATED: Nov 8, 2008, 12:45am After a late start--over four hours past the scheduled starting time--the Lady Panthers defeated Houston Lutheran North in three straight games (25-16, 25-12, 25-13) to advance to the State Championship game against Dallas Christian at 4 p.m. today. According to the TAPPS web site, the volleyball finals will be broadcast live via streaming video from TAPPS TV.
Parish advanced to the TAPPS Class 4A state volleyball tournament with a strong qualifying victory over defending state champ Houston Second Baptist last Saturday afternoon at John Paul II High School in Plano.
The Lady Panthers’ second-consecutive state semifinal berth will be 7 p.m. Friday at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas. Parish defeated Second Baptist, 25-20, 23-25, 25-17, 25-18, in the regional final. Second Baptist eliminated Parish in the semifinal last year.
If Parish wins its semifinal, it will play for the TAPPS state title 4 p.m. Saturday at the Merrell Center. Arlington Grace Prep and Dallas Christian meet in the other semifinal.
On Tuesday, Parish hosts a warmup match against TAPPS Class 5A state qualifier Bishop Lynch. Parish and Lynch play at 5 p.m. in the Parish Gym.
Panthers preparing for state playoffs Nov 6, 2008 Following a thrilling, last-minute victory to clinch a state playoff spot, the Panthers are getting ready for a first round matchup in the TAPPS Division II playoffs Nov. 14 against defending state champ Argyle Liberty Christian.
Parish senior Andre Brackens caught a 43-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Brant Costilla to score the game-winning touchdown with 1:08 left in a 42-35 victory over Prestonwood Christian on Halloween night at Gloria H. Snyder Stadium.
The Panthers (8-2, 4-2) finished the regular season with third-place in District 2. The Panthers reached the playoffs for the second time in their three varsity seasons. Parish was eliminated in the second round by Argyle Liberty last year.
Parish one win from state volleyball tourney Oct 29, 2008 Parish Episcopal meets Houston Second Baptist in the TAPPS Class 4A state volleyball semifinals at 4 p.m. Saturday at John Paul II in Plano.
The winner advances to the TAPPS state tourney Nov. 7-8 at Katy's Merrell Center. Parish advanced to the regional final for the second-consecutive season with a playoff victory over Fort Worth Christian last Saturday.
Parish won in 25-10, 25-11 and 25-11. Parish advanced to the state tournament last season in only its second varsity season. Parish was ousted in the state semifinals by Houston Second Baptist.
Football regular-season finale Oct 29, 2008 Parish Episcopal ends its regular-season with a TAPPS District 2 football finale against Prestonwood Christian at Gloria H. Snyder Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Friday. A Parish victory gives the Panthers (7-2, 3-2) third-place in district behind Dallas Christian and Trinity Christian Cedar Hill. The Panthers would get a much-needed bye-week before the TAPPS Division II state playoffs begin Nov. 14.
With a third-or fourth-place finish, Parish will play on the road in the playoffs. If Parish loses to PCA, the Panthers would have to wait for the outcome of other games to determine whether they qualify for the playoffs.
Volleyball playoffs Saturday Oct 22, 2008 The Lady Panthers will open the first round of the TAPPS Class 4A state volleyball playoffs against Fort Worth Christian at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Panther Gym. Parish is coming off is second-consecutive district title and is hoping to advance again to the TAPPS state tournament in November.
Parish (36-8) finished district undefeated and ranked No. 8 in The Dallas Morning News Class 4A/Others rankings. Fort Worth Christian (19-3) took the fourth seed in District 1. Parish clinched the District 2 title with a four-set victory at second-place Dallas Christian on Oct. 14.
“Probably the best match we have played all season,” Parish coach Jenny Neuhoff said. “Our defense was on point and hustling. Senior setter Kelsey Musselman was moving the ball around so our hitters could put the ball away. Our team set lofty goals and they have successfully accomplished two of them: No. 1 to win district and No. 2 not to drop a game in district.”
A Parish victory would advance the Panthers to the TAPPS regional tournament Nov. 1. The state tournament is Nov. 7-8.
Panthers prepare for Homecoming Oct 14, 2008 Parish looks toward getting closer to a TAPPS Division II state football berth when the Panthers host Tyler Gorman for Homecoming this Friday at Wheat Field.
Parish (6-1, 2-1) likely can secure its second-consecutive playoff spot with victories against Gorman and Trinity Christian Cedar Hill over the next two weeks. Parish reached the second round of the state playoffs last year.
Parish is coming off its first loss of the season after District 2 leader Dallas Christian defeated the Panthers 35-14. Dallas Christian was the first opponent to take a lead against the Panthers, who had rolled to wins in their first six games.
Parish hopes to get the return of its leading rusher, tackler and top lineman for its push to return to the state playoffs. Parish senior running back Trey Morse was on the sidelines against Dallas Christian with a knee sprain. Parish senior linebacker Ryan Simons has been out with a broken foot and starting center/nose guard Luis Rios was out with a concussion.
Parish hopes to get back to full strength against Gorman. In just its third varsity season, Parish’s Homecoming welcomes back high school graduates from the last two years as well as graduates from the school which was a 20-year day school through the sixth grade before expanding to its secondary school.
Cross Country finishes strong Oct 6, 2008 The Parish boys’ and girls’ varsity cross country teams ran Saturday, Oct. 4, at the TAPPS District meet in Tyler, placing third and fourth, respectively, in their divisions. Senior, Conrad Smith, led the boys by finishing eighth with a time of 20:13, followed closely by sophomore, Tyler Knight (10th), and freshman, Conner Fagin (11th). The boys' team earned bronze with a combined score of 56 points.
The girls' team was led by strong performances by sophomore Madison Jones who placed second with a blistering time of 12:37 for two miles. She was closely followed by fourth place finisher junior Meredith Moore who ran a 13:18 race. Junior Kyle Hughes and sophomores Allison Kelsoe and Mia Goetz all had personal bests, with Goetz lowering her previous time by nearly two minutes. The girls' team had a combined score of 83 points to finish fourth.
The Parish Panthers will run next on Oct. 18, at the TAPPS State Meet in Waco.
Volleyball stakes claim on first place Sept 26, 2008 Parish defeated Dallas Christian on Thursday night before an enthusiastic Lady Panthers’ home crowd to take possession of first place in TAPPS District 2. Parish met a strong Dallas Christian challenge but won in three sets, 25-20, 25-20, 25-22.
Ranked No. 6 in The Dallas Morning News’ Class 4A/Private School poll, Parish (30-7) is 4-0 in district while trying to defend last year’s first championship. Parish ends the first round of district play at First Baptist on Tuesday and starts the second round at Trinity Christian Cedar Hill. Parish’s next home game is Oct. 7 against Tyler Grace.
Red Out: Panthers jump to fast start Sept 22, 2008 The Lady Panthers won their first two district games and will play at T.K. Gorman on Tuesday before hosting Dallas Christian at Panther Gym on Thursday night. Asking everyone to wear “Red” to support the volleyball team, the Panthers booster club will give out Spirit Towels to the first 100 students and have a $1 Dog Night at the concession stand.
Trying to defend its TAPPS District 2-4A volleyball championship, Parish defeated Trinity Christian Cedar Hill and Tyler Grace last week. Parish (28-7) is ranked No. 7 ranking in The Dallas Morning News’ Class 4A/Private School area volleyball poll.
“We started off with a very tough preseason to prepare us for what was to come in district,” Panthers coach Jenny Neuhoff said. “The girls have been working hard to stay focused and our record is a testament to that focus. Each match, we choose certain elements to improve and each girl comes into the match with her own individual goal to achieve.”
Parish senior Kelsey Musselman is among the area leaders with more than 800 assists and junior Whitney Keith is among the North Texas leaders with 389 kills and 55 serving aces. Sophomore Abbey Rogge has 273 digs on defense.
Panthers move the ball in the air Sept 19, 2008 Parish 36, Hyde Park Baptist 14 Coming into this evening’s game against Hyde Park, the Panthers had been averaging over 375 yards per game on the ground and 33 in the air. The tables were turned tonight as Parish racked up 352 yards of passing offense compared to 198 yards rushing. Quarterback Brant Costilla threw for 339 of those yards which included four touchdowns in the first half. One touchdown was scored on the ground by running back Andre Brackens, and points were also put on the board with a 47-yard field goal by senior Michael DeLong.
Football moves to 3-0 Sept 12, 2008 Parish 38, Hillcrest 21 Parish’s offense racked up 351 yards on the ground in their 38-21 victory over Hillcrest High School (UIL, 4A). The Panthers went into halftime with a two point lead and were able to outscore Hillcrest 22-7 in the second half with touchdowns by Trey Morse, Ryan Simons and Andre Brackens.
The Panthers’ next opponent is Hyde Park Baptist (Austin). Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 next Friday night, September 19, at Panther stadium.
No. 3 Panthers host Hillcrest Sept 8, 2008 Game 2: Parish 39, Kemp 0 Parish Episcopal moved to No. 3 in The Dallas Morning News’ Large Private School poll after its a 39-0 victory at Kemp last Friday. Parish will meet North Dallas neighbor Hillcrest in a battle of Panthers at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Parish’s Wheat Field.
Parish’s Double Wing-T formation is averaging 45 points per game in wins over ESD and Class 3A Kemp. Parish senior running back Andre Brackens rushed for four touchdowns and 160 yards against Kemp while senior running back Trey Morse rushed for 169 yards.
Parish senior linebacker Ryan Simons, junior Dillon Hoelscher and sophomores BJ January and Rob Hankins lead the way in Parish’s shutout over Kemp.
Road Trip Sept 4, 2008 A week after Parish played neighbor ESD, the Panthers take a traditional Texas high school football game roadtrip to play at Kemp. The Panthers (1-0) will take on a heavy duty Class 3A public school that will outweigh the Panthers at nearly every position. The Yellowjackets (0-1) aren’t a traditional power, but they are used to playing against high levels of competition.

Panthers win home opener Aug 29, 2008 Varsity Football: Parish 50, ESD 27 Parish opened the 2008 varsity football season with a 50-27 victory over Episcopal School of Dallas. The offense gained over 500 yards on the ground with a strong running attack by Trey Morse, Andre Brackens and Ryan Simons with each running back putting two touchdowns on the board. The remaining touchdown was scored by John Mark Johnson on a 31 yard pass from quarterback Brant Costilla.
The Panthers’ next game will be played at Kemp High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm next Friday, September 5.
An unexpected homecoming Aug 27, 2008 With Parish playing ESD for the first time, the Panthers also will get to open their third varsity football season at home. With a large crowd expected, the game was moved to Parish’s Wheat Field at Panther Stadium from ESD. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. Friday with the gates opening at 6:30 p.m. With the switch to a home game from a road game, fans are asked to wear Red instead of White.
Parish will play at Kemp on Sept. 5 and return home Sept. 12 against Hillcrest High School. Next year’s game against ESD will be moved to its stadium.
Volleyball spiking through early season Aug 27, 2008 The Lady Panthers’ volleyball team plays in the Frisco Tournament this weekend after starting 2008 like they left off in ’07. Parish (14-4) is off to a fast start after reaching the TAPPS state tournament last season in November.
Parish picked up its first win in three years over neighborhood rival ESD on Aug. 21. The Panthers rallied in the last two sets to defeat ESD in five games. Parish then defeated Prestonwood Christian on Tuesday after beating Carrollton Christian at home Monday. The Panthers’ strength continues to be overall team play with strong defense and passing.
After playing in Frisco, Parish’s next home game is 7 p.m. Tuesday in Panther Gym against Garland Christian.
New Boys’ Varsity Basketball Coach on Board August 2008 We are very pleased to announce the selection of Dorian Harris as the Head Coach of the Boys' Varsity Basketball Team. Coach Harris comes to Parish from the Covenant School in Dallas, where the team has made it to the Final Four in TAPPS the past two years. He has also coached one of the Heroes Foundation summer teams, traveling the country, winning five tournaments in 2008. more...
